“For the Vision is yet for an Appointed Time”
BEIJING – In a move that has sent shockwaves through the geopolitical and theological world, President Donald Trump declared the “military decimation of Iran” a primary achievement of his administration, punctuating the statement with a chilling promise: “To be continued!”
The declaration came following a high-stakes summit at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders reportedly reached a “pragmatic” understanding regarding the Strait of Hormuz—the world’s primary oil artery—which has remained blocked since the outbreak of hostilities in late February.
The Valley of Decision
For many students of eschatology, the language of “decimation” in the ancient land of Elam (modern-day Iran) echoes the warnings of the prophet Jeremiah: “Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might… and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith the Lord” (Jeremiah 49:35-37).
As the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly failed to rein in war powers by a 212-212 tie, the path appears clear for a resumption of hostilities once the current ceasefire expires.
The Kings of the East
The involvement of China in “opening the way” through the Strait of Hormuz has drawn immediate comparisons to the Revelation of John, which speaks of the way being prepared for the “Kings of the East” (Revelation 16:12). With China seeking to secure its oil supply and distance itself from Tehran’s “regime of terror,” the geopolitical pieces are shifting into a configuration that many believe mirrors the final gathering.
The Smoke and the Fire
Islamic eschatology also speaks of a great smoke (Dukhan) and a time of trial centered in the East. The Quran warns of a day “when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke, covering the people; this is a painful torment” (Surah Ad-Dukhan 44:10-11). Some scholars suggest that the modern “smoke” of global energy collapse and the fire of industrial warfare in the Levant and Persia are the physical manifestations of these ancient warnings.
A Peace That is No Peace
While President Trump speaks of “peace in that area,” the military reality on the ground suggests a different trajectory. As the “decimation” is promised to continue, the world is reminded of the warning in 1 Thessalonians 5:3: “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them… and they shall not escape.”
As the Strait of Hormuz remains a flashpoint and the “bow of Elam” is systematically broken, the “Path to Woe” documented in Jon Seager’s The Unmasked Heart seems to find its modern expression in the headlines of today.
